Kia Tiratira Tu - Akara Ki Mua is the formal name of the Apii Te Uki Ou Alumni, given by the school’s first principal, Mrs Kathy Nooroa, and its longest-serving teacher, Mrs Saireni Pekepo-Poila.
Kia Tiratira Tu speaks to standing tall in achievement and being upright through honesty and integrity. Akara Ki Mua draws on our school motto and vision—“Look ahead” and “Learning for Tomorrow”—honouring our beginnings while uplifting the new generation.
For more than thirty years, generations of students, families, staff and supporters have helped shape Apii Te Uki Ou. Our earliest students are now adults whose stories, experiences and knowledge can inspire the tamariki of today.
The alumni brings our people together to reconnect, preserve our school’s history, celebrate our community’s achievements and build relationships between past and present students. Through sharing stories and giving back in ways that suit them—whether through time, skills, connections or support—our alumni help carry the Te Uki Ou legacy forward.
