KURA

Apii Te Uki Ou would not be the ever-growing school it is if it wasn’t for the seedling that is Tamariki Potiki. The start of our journey as a school started in 1993 when a group of dedicated parents came together and discussed the possibility of creating their own preschool. That seedling was planted in Lauren Parkinson’s garage in Betela with ten children and  a play-based learning approach which we still use to this day.

Play Based Learning

Here in Kura we adopt a Play-Based Learning with Intentional Curriculum Connections for our 3 and 4 year olds.

We believe that learning happens naturally through play, and we integrate educational experiences to support children's growth in a fun, engaging way.

Our approach aligns with the Cook Island’s Ministry of Education Early Childhood Education (ECE) curriculum, ensuring that play is not just an enjoyable experience, but also a foundation for learning that prepares children for a smooth transition to school.

Apaipai Karere – Communication

In Kura we encourage a culture of positive guidance and learning opportunities for all children. We understand at times our children may not be able to communicate their feelings and in this case we do our best to communicate at their level and work with them from where they are.  We are more than happy to help with positive conversations to help guide our children through emotional times during their day and for smooth communication with parents.
